Support

Answers to common questions, and how to reach us. We can help with the app and your account — not with opening encrypted documents.

Important: if you lose both your password and your recovery code, your vault cannot be recovered. Support cannot bypass encryption.

FAQ

What is 1Vault?

1Vault is a place to keep important documents so that only you can open them. Files are encrypted on your device before they are sent, and we never hold a key that can read them.

What does end-to-end encryption mean here?

Your documents are scrambled on this phone or tablet before they leave it. The server only stores ciphertext — not filenames, not tags, not the contents. Even 1Vault staff cannot open what you store.

What is my recovery code?

A one-time code shown when you create your vault (and again if you issue a new one). If you forget your password, you need this code to get back in. We cannot look it up or reset it for you — save it somewhere safe.

What happens if I forget my password and lose my recovery code?

The vault cannot be opened. That is the trade-off of true end-to-end encryption: there is no back door for us to use. Keep the recovery code offline — printed, or in a password manager you trust.

How do I add a document?

In the app, tap +, then choose Camera, Gallery, or Files. You will name it and can add tags and notes before it is encrypted and uploaded. Use New folder from the same menu to organise documents into nested folders.

How do folders work?

Folders are encrypted like everything else — the server never sees folder names or where a file sits. Open a folder to go inside it, use the back control to go up, and long-press to move or delete. Deleting a folder permanently deletes everything inside it.

Can you see my document names or tags?

No. Names, tags, and notes are encrypted on your device with a key that never leaves it in a form we can use. Search runs entirely on your device over the decrypted list.

How does Face ID / biometrics unlock work?

After you unlock once with your password, the device can store what it needs behind Face ID or your fingerprint. That skips retyping the password on that phone — it does not give us access, and it does not work on a new device until you sign in again.

Is deleting a document permanent?

Yes. Deleting destroys the key for that document, so the stored copy becomes unreadable. This cannot be undone.

How do I delete my vault / account?

Open the menu in the app and choose Delete vault. You will see a strong warning, type your email to confirm, and acknowledge that nothing can be recovered. That permanently deletes every document, every key, and the account itself.
